The Berg "Whac-a-Mole" Sleep Time Routine

34

"The term "Whac-a-mole" (or "Whack-a-mole") is used colloquially to denote a repetitious and futile task: each time an adversary is "whacked", it only pops up again somewhere else"

You all remember Whac-a-mole where you hit one mole down with a hammer & just as fast as that one goes down another one pops up. Well this best describes the Berg household bedtime routine without the hammering lol.  Despite my conservative 200% effort, the game continues night after night. I put twins down first. We bath, have snacks, brush teeth, read books, say prayers, rock & sing our songs, & then jump into bed. This part goes fairly smooth compared to the bobbing up of heads thereafter.  Yes I agree the toddler beds have really increased length of bedtime with the access of getting out so smooth & easily. But just when you think they are all cuddled in ... one twin pops up right when the other twin is almost asleep. I go into pep talk mode - Telling myself "I got this". I go over to them to settle them back down & just as that one settles the other one pops back up saying.... Mom where are you? Or need a drink? Or lost the pacifier? Etc. then as I'm going back and forth. I'm reassuring them IT IS BEDTIME (on my clock it could have been way sooner geez) & we are staying in beds now. My smartness arises with trying reverse psychology. Let's praise the one that is staying in their beds in hopes the other would catch on....which works ......Then one will talk to the other & then its the "my mommy" banter, etc. Finally twins settle down...when.... low & behold the 4 year pops his head in.  He asks what is taking so long & then both twins pop back up. Here we go all over again.  Now you wonder what the oldest might think....well he enjoys every second of this because he gets to stay up that much longer!

Lord Bless the Mothers who endure this night after night....Its real....Its hard...Its the ultimate challenge of patience. High fives to you guys! Don't give up! Keep going!
